Buster Posey went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and three total RBI in Monday's win over the Rockies.

Posey rocked a deep RBI double off German Marquez in the first inning, came through with a sacrifice fly in the third and put a cap on his fine evening with an RBI single in the ninth. The All-Star backstop is slashing a blistering .347/.424/.536 with 10 homers and 33 RBI in 239 at-bats this season. If the Giants were anywhere close to contention -- sitting at 28-51 in an ultra-competitive NL West, they have a giant fork sticking out of their back right now -- Posey would probably be drawing some level of early MVP talk.

Denard Span went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple and two runs scored in Monday's win over the Rockies.

Span struck for an RBI triple in the fourth inning. He is up to four triples on the season and is now hitting .282/.332/.435 with four homers, 15 RBI and 28 runs scored in 216 at-bats. The veteran outfielder has turned in multi-hit efforts in four of his last six games.

Nolan Arenado went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Monday's loss to the Giants.

They do not come around too often for the All-Star third baseman, but this was a rough day at the office for Arenado. Moving on, now. The slugger is hitting a brilliant .292/.343/.552 with 15 homers and 59 RBI in 78 games this season.
Jun 27 - 1:34 AM

Trevor Story went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in Monday's loss to the Giants.

Story hit an RBI single in the seventh inning to get the Rockies on the scoreboard, but even with that hit, they still trailed by a 5-1 score. They wound up losing by a 9-2 final. For the season as a whole, Story is slashing just .223/.307/.409 with 10 homers and 29 RBI across 215 at-bats.
Jun 27 - 1:32 AM

Jeff Samardzija allowed two runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings in Monday's win over the Rockies.

This was a fine outing from Samardzija, who struck out five without walking a batter. He kept the Rockies at bay on the scoreboard until the seventh inning, when he surrendered an RBI single to Trevor Story. The second run on his line came home inherited courtesy of Hunter Strickland. Samardzija will bring a 4.63 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 117/13 K/BB ratio (105 innings) into a road start against the Pirates next time he takes to the mound.
Jun 27 - 1:32 AM

German Marquez surrendered five runs on seven hits over four innings in Monday's loss to the Giants.

Marquez managed a mere two strikeouts while walking two in the contest. The Giants plated a run in the first inning on a Buster Posey double, then two more in the second inning and two more in the fourth before Marquez took a seat on the bench. It was a disappointing outing, particularly given that the 22-year-old right-hander had surrendered just four runs combined in his previous three starts. He will bring a 4.38 ERA and 1.41 WHIP into a road showdown with the Diamondbacks next time he takes to the mound.
Jun 27 - 1:31 AM

Yunel Escobar went 2-for-4 with a two-run single and two strikeouts in Monday's win over the Dodgers.

Escobar notched a two-run single against Rich Hill in the third inning. He had missed the last two games due to a strained left thumb, but had no issues in his return to the lineup on Monday. The veteran third baseman is 10-for-26 (.385) over his last six games and is slashing a fine-if-unspectacular .283/.333/.417 with five homers and 23 RBI in 59 games played this season.
Jun 27 - 1:17 AM

Martin Maldonado went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's win over the Dodgers.

Maldonado uncoiled for a solo home run off Sergio Romo with one out in the ninth inning to give the Angels a 4-0 lead and offer a little bit of insurance against a Dodgers lineup that had been swinging molten hot bats entering action on Monday. The home run was Maldonado's eighth of the season and bumped his RBI total to 24. He is hitting .261/.328/.431 in 211 at-bats.
Jun 27 - 1:15 AM

Cody Bellinger went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in Monday's loss to the Angels.

Apparently it is possible to keep the hot-swinging rookie down from time-to-time. To put a number on it, Bellinger has fanned at least three times in 10 of 58 games this season, but had not done so since June 6 prior to tripping up on Monday. The budding star is working to a .271/.340/.670 triple-slash with 24 homers and 55 RBI this season.
Jun 27 - 1:14 AM

Chase Utley went 1-for-4 with a double and a strikeout in Monday's loss to the Angels.

The Angels cooled off the Dodgers in this one, with the boys from Los Angeles finishing with just five hits in the shutout loss. Utley's double was his ninth of the season. The elder second baseman has picked up two-baggers in two of his last three games, but is hitting just .229/.330/.388 with four homers and 20 RBI in 170 at-bats for the season as a whole.
Jun 27 - 1:14 AM

Cam Bedrosian struck out both batters he faced in Monday's win over the Dodgers.

Bedrosian entered with two on and one out in the seventh inning after Ricky Nolasco was forced out of action due to a potential injury. No worries for the Angels, though, as Bedrosian proceeded to strike out Mike Freeman and Chase Utley to end that threat and preserve the 3-0 advantage. In five appearances since being reinstated from the disabled list earlier this month, the reliever has surrendered two runs on two hits in 4 1/3 innings while posting an 8/2 K/BB ratio.
Jun 27 - 1:08 AM

Rich Hill allowed three runs on four hits over seven innings in Monday's loss to the Angels.

Hill took the loss in this one, but he pitched well enough for a win. The veteran southpaw struck out seven and walked two on the evening, with only a two-run single by Yunel Escobar in the third inning and a sacrifice fly by Danny Espinosa in the fourth dinging the scoreboard on his watch. He will bring a 4.60 ERA and 1.45 WHIP into a road start against the Padres.
Jun 27 - 1:05 AM

Ricky Nolasco exited Monday's game against the Dodgers after taking a comebacker off his leg in the seventh inning.

Nolasco had held the Dodgers off the scoreboard through the first six innings, but was hit by a pair of comebackers in the seventh. After a meeting on the mound with the trainer and manager Mike Scioscia, he then left the game. He remained in the dugout after exiting and was spotted pacing around, so this may just have been a precautionary lifting by Scioscia and company. Consider Nolasco day-to-day unless the Angels offer information to the contrary. He will be reevaluated on Tuesday.
Jun 27 - 12:21 AM

Tyler Austin went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two total RBI in Monday's win over the White Sox.

Austin lofted a sacrifice fly as part of a three-run fourth by the Yankees. In his next at-bat, he smashed a screaming liner into the left field bullpen for a solo dinger off David Holmberg with one out in the sixth inning. That was his first homer since being called up on June 24. He had gone 1-for-7 with three strikeouts in the two games prior to Monday's sturdy showing. Thanks to Greg Bird's seemingly endless stay on the disabled list with an ankle injury and Chris Carter's struggles prior to being designated for assignment over the weekend, the Yankees have fielded one of the worst offensive first base collectives in the bigs. If Austin can give them anything resembling a boost at the position, they will most definitely take it.
Jun 26 - 11:55 PM

Willson Contreras went 2-for-4 with a homer and a sac bunt Monday as the Cubs edged the Nationals 5-4.

The Cubs were up 1-0 after seven -- courtesy of Contreras's leadoff homer in the first -- and 2-0 after eight before the offenses finally broke out in the ninth. Contreras was making his first ever start in the leadoff spot. It's probably not something he'll have the chance to get used to, but he's a nice DFS option whenever he's penciled in up there.
