Marwin Gonzalez (oblique) was scratched from the Astros' lineup Saturday against the Mariners.

Jun 24 - 9:55 PM

A.J. Pollock (groin, quad) will resume his rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on Sunday.

He hasn't played since tweaking his quad on Monday. According to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, the Diamondbacks are looking to get Pollock 10 at-bats before bringing him up to the big leagues. Barring another setback, Pollock should be back in Arizona by mid-week.
Jun 24 - 9:43 PM

Brandon Kintzler allowed a double but no runs while recording a save against the Indians on Saturday.

He retired the first two batters of the ninth inning before giving up a double to Francisco Lindor. He was able to induce Jason Kipnis into lining out to end the threat and the game. It was Kintzler's 20th save in 23 chances. He has a 2.78 ERA with 21 strikeouts and seven walks in 32 1/3 innings. His grip on the closer role is rock solid.
Jun 24 - 9:41 PM

Brian Dozier hit a tie-breaking solo shot in the eighth inning to lead his team to a 4-2 win over the Indians on Saturday.

He went yard off reliever Cody Allen to bust a 2-2 tie. It was his only knock of the game although he did score another run earlier in the contest. Dozier has little chance of repeating his 42-homer outburst from a year ago but he has been a stalwart fantasy second-sacker this year anyway. He has a .254 batting average with 13 homers, 36 runs, 35 RBI and 10 stolen bases.
Jun 24 - 9:36 PM

Joe Mauer went 2-for-2 with two walks and a run scored against the Indians on Saturday.

He walked and scored on a throwing error in the first inning. Mauer's days as a stud fantasy catcher are obviously in the rearview mirror and he is barely usable as a first baseman or designated hitter. He has a decent .282/.356/.397 slash line with only four home runs and 29 RBI in 261 plate appearances.
Jun 24 - 9:30 PM

Kyle Gibson gave up one run in 4 2/3 innings but did not earn a decision as his club beat the Indians on Saturday.

He surrendered four hits and four walks while fanning just one batter. He walked two batters in the fifth inning and was pulled for a reliever after having thrown 93 pitches in the short start. The only run he allowed came on a solo homer by third baseman Jose Ramirez in the fourth inning. This will go down as one of his best outings of the season, which isn't saying much considering he has a 6.23 ERA after 13 starts.
Jun 24 - 9:25 PM

Cody Allen gave up a home run to Brian Dozier in the eighth inning and was charged with a loss to the Twins on Saturday.

Allen was recently removed from his closer role so that he could be used in high-leverage situations earlier in the game while Andrew Miller conserves some innings. Allen was brought in to pitch the eighth inning of a tie game today and served up the longball. He falls to 0-3 with a 2.25 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 28 innings. He has blown only one of his 16 save chances but will seemingly not get many more for at least the next few weeks.
Jun 24 - 9:18 PM

Jose Ramirez roped a solo home run and finished the game 1-for-4 versus the Twins on Saturday.

He took starter Kyle Gibson over the wall in right field in the fourth inning. It was his 12th homer of the season. He has a .319 batting average with 48 runs, 35 RBI and seven stolen bases after 72 games.
Jun 24 - 9:14 PM

Corey Kluber punched out 13 batters and allowed two runs -- both unearned -- in seven innings and did not earn a decision as his club lost to the Twins on Saturday.

Second baseman Jason Kipnis made a throwing error on the first batter of the game that led to two unearned runs scoring in the first inning. Kluber didn't let it bother him and proceeded to dominate the game. He surrendered just three base hits and two walks. Unfortunately his teammates couldn't help him out with much run support. This was the third game in a row and fifth time in his 11 starts this season that Kluber has notched double-figure strikeouts in a game. His record holds at 6-2 with a 3.24 ERA. He has 93 punchouts and 19 walks in 72 1/3 innings.
Jun 24 - 9:09 PM

Tyler Skaggs (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment in the Arizona League on Saturday.

So far it's taken Skaggs almost two months to recover from a strained oblique. The Angels are targeting the All-Star break for his return.
Jun 24 - 9:09 PM

Mike Trout (thumb) has begun hitting off a tee.

Trout is still working his way back from thumb surgery. He's hoping to return for the All-Star Game on July 11, but the Angels might not be comfortable with that. The Halos have fared surprisingly well in his absence with Cameron Maybin playing like a legitimate All-Star in center field.
Jun 24 - 9:02 PM

R.A. Dickey allowed just one run on five hits through seven innings to beat the Brewers 3-1 on Saturday.

He gave up a run in the first inning but then cruised the rest of the way. He whiffed six batters and issued one free pass in the drama-free outing. The veteran knuckle-baller eats a lot of innings for the Braves but doesn't offer a whole lot of fantasy value in mixed leagues. He improves to 6-5 with a 4.63 ERA and 1.39 WHIP through 15 starts. He has a paltry 58 strikeouts in 91 1/3 innings.
Jun 24 - 8:59 PM

Updating an earlier report, Danny Valencia was scratched from Saturday's game against the Astros due to a sore right wrist.

It's unclear when or how he got hurt. Taylor Motter is filling in at first base. Consider Valencia day-to-day.
Jun 24 - 8:54 PM

Jim Johnson struck out two batters in the ninth inning while earning a save against the Brewers on Saturday.

He allowed a single to Jesus Aguilar with two outs but was able to punch out rookie Lewis Brinson to sew up the save. Johnson has endured a couple of bad outings recently but didn't have much trouble this afternoon. He has 15 saves and a 3.86 ERA on the season.
Jun 24 - 8:52 PM

Brandon Phillips walloped a two-run homer to provide the winning margin against the Brewers on Saturday.

He took starter Matt Garza over the wall with a runner aboard in the third inning for his seventh longball of the season. The veteran second baseman has seen an uptick in his production in his first campaign with the Braves after many years in Cincinnati. He has a .306 batting average that would be the highest of his career if he can keep it up. He has scored 39 runs, driven in 28 and stolen seven bases in 67 games.
