Pilon has 20 goals and 65 points in 67 WHL games this season. He'll wrap up the 2016-17 campaign with AHL Hershey.
Brian Strait has been sent to AHL Manitoba.
Strait has two assists in five games with Winnipeg this season. At the AHL level he has two goals and 12 points in 50 contests.
Sam Reinhart described the decision to bench him on Tuesday as tough to swallow.
Reinhart was being punished for being late. "To be honest, it was just a mistake," Reinhart said. "When I woke up I was sitting in my bed and misread the text. It was a team stretch that was 10:30. I thought it was 11." The Sabres had put a policy in place that imposed a one-game suspension for players that are late and Reinhart's attempt to plead his case didn't result in leniency. Buffalo might have simply made him a healthy scratch, but the Sabres didn't have an extra forward to replace Reinhart with, so instead he spent the entire game warming the bench.
Martin Jones is likely to play between the pipes on Thursday.
It would be Jones' third straight start. He has a 2.37 GAA and .912 save percentage in 60 games this season.
Micheal Haley has completed his one-game suspension.
Haley was punished for sucker punching Nashville's Calle Jarnkrok. Haley is projected to draw into the lineup on Thursday.
